Tuscaloosa's One Place offers several programs designed to serve the needs of our most precious resource - the children of Tuscaloosa County. Some of these programs are outlined below.
After-school Programs
Tuscaloosa's One Place operates two-hour tutorial programs three to five days a week from 3:00pm-5:00pm at area Elementary and Middle schools.
Elementary School sites include:
- Cottondale (Tuesday - Thursday)
- Crestmont (Monday - Friday)
- Holt (Tuesday - Thursday)
- Matthews (Monday - Friday)
Middle School sites include:
- Davis Emerson (Tuesday - Thursday)
- Hillcrest 6th Grade (Monday - Friday)
- Hillcrest 7th & 8th Grade (Tuesday - Thursday)
Our programs have received National and International recognition for innovative design and data analysis. Each program provides academic remediation by certified teachers. Students also work in small groups with mentors from the University of Alabama. This experience fosters a positive interaction with college students and emphasizes higher education. Students receive life skill training from our staff to encourage healthy self-esteem, positive peer relationships, and character development.
Each child is guaranteed a safe environment for after school care as well as a nutritious snack. Goal ratings as well as academic progress is tracked each quarter.
Each family is required to meet with our staff and set goals prior to their child being enrolled. Please call (205) 462-1000 for more information.
Tuscaloosa's Promise
Tuscaloosa's Promise is a local initiative of the national America’s Promise movement. Involves collaboration among churches, businesses, private sector, education, social service agencies, etc. to ensure all children in our community are afforded five basic rights:
- A Caring Adult
- A Safe Place
- A Healthy Start
- The Opportunity to Serve and Give Back
- Marketable Skills
Last year the Promise helped with the annual school supply drive, the Cyberspace Forum and the community forum “Doing What Matters for Tuscaloosa’s Children.” For more information on the Promise please contact Kristy Brown or Jennifer Moore at (205) 462-1000.
